In the Niche: (Part 2)

Allen: I spent all night working on this. Here’s the list in order of importance to me:

1. Rear Wheel Drive (Limited Slip differential should be an option.)

2. 28 mpg (Preferably, a 4 cylinder)

3. Around or Under $25,000

4. Manual Transmission

5. Must be classified as a compact and have 2 doors.

All of the other options I can live with. A Turbocharger would be a great option Continue reading →

In the Niche: (Part 1)

Allen: Where have all the rear wheel drive (RWD) economy sport compacts coupes gone (maybe this market is a little too specific)? Are they gone for good? If you haven’t figured out by now I’m a big fan of oversteer and not the kind that involves your “good friend” the E-brake, Austin.

I’ve been keeping up with concept cars that are being produced in the past few years in hopes that they will fill this “Niche market”, like the Saturn Sky or Pontiac Solstice when they were still concepts. It turns out that GM decided to make them convertible roadsters, sadly.

Nissan GT-R Line-Up and Colors.

2009 Nissan GT-R

Ok, so it appears that everyone wants to know about the Nissan GT-R. It is by and far the most popular post so far on 62mph, so here is more of what everybody loves. The current Nissan GT-R line-up is going to consist of three(3) different models. And here they are according to Nissan. There will not be any performance difference between the three models. All three will have the VR38DETT 3.8 Liter Twin Turbo engine and 6 speed dual clutch transmission. There will be six available colors. Ultimate Metal Silver, Titanium Gray, Pearl white, Red, Dark Metal Gray, and Super Black. So that makes 5 out of 6 in the monochrome scale, and one color.

Gran Turismo 5 Gets Top Gear Track

BBC Top Gear

(From Ars Technica)

From its roots as a drab TV show about cars, the BBC’s Top Gear has metamorphosed, with the help of P2P and the Internet, into a global smash hit. With more light entertainment than pure car show, there is still just enough to keep the petrolhead riveted. Fans of the show will know that new cars and celebrities hawking their new books are put to the test on a track laid out on a disused airstrip.

Now Gran Turismo fans will have their own opportunity to drive the Top Gear track and pretend to be The Stig, as Polyphony Digital has announced the inclusion of the track in its forthcoming PS3 game, Gran Turismo 5. In addition to being able to drive the track, GT5 will allow players to download clips from Top Gear with GT TV in what seems to be a mashup between YouTube and PGR3’s Gotham TV feature.

GT5 Prologue, which is alleged to be out soon, will feature GT TV, but we’ll have to wait for the full game before we can drive the course. PD claims that will be at the end of 2008, but given its track record, perhaps 2009 is a safer bet.

Want To Ride? (Alternative Version)

Kawasaki Ninja 500r

Allen posted about how great his bike was and all of that. I decided that rather than commenting on what he had to say, I could say the same thing only much different.

F** Front Wheel Drives!

2007 Mini Cooper S

FUN FRONT WHEEL DRIVES (I bet you weren’t thinking FUN):

Allen:

Let me just preface this by saying I’m not a big fan of front wheel drive cars. This took quite a bit off internal fortitude to actually admit that there are a few front wheel drive cars that I actually like. Honestly, just two out of the many front wheel drive cars I have driven. Granted, there are probably others that are just as fun to drive as these but these I have driven and can vouch for. Also, these are the only one I have actually really, and I mean really, enjoyed driving.

The first is, as you can tell from the picture, Continue reading →

Toyota Responds to Reliability Questions

Toyota Camry

Consumer Reports recently released their 2007 Car Reliability Survey and Toyota did not have the same results that it had in the past. Toyota is known widely for its reliability, and like anyone who sets a benchmark, they are open to severe criticism whenever they start to slide even a little bit. Toyota released a statement today essentially saying, “We didn’t do THAT bad.” Honestly, Toyota, third place overall is not that good either, especially for a company known for it’s reliability.

Volvo XC60 Concept

Volvo XC60 Concept

Unveiling the XC60 Concept at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2007 was the climax of four months’ intensive work at Volvo Cars Concept Centre. The centre is Volvo Cars’ very own ‘inventors’ workshop’. It includes eight different departments. The staff working in this centre are all specialists of different kinds, and they really know their stuff. The fabrication of the XC60 Concept had about 70 staff involved in working on it.
